WELCOME

Good morning everyone and welcome to the Interfaith Thanksgiving Prayer gathering held here at Rosemont. Thanks also to the current students and staff, as well as alumni and friends streaming this from home. We're so pleased to have the opportunity to gather together in-person and virtually, to offer gratitude for our faith, our God, and each other. We'll be hearing prayers, blessings, poetry, and hymns representing a beautiful spectrum of faith traditions that illumine hope and ignite gratitude.

We'll be praying an adaption of the traditional Native American Prayer of Four Directions. We will turn to face each direction and stay there for one additional prayer, blessing, or poem. Please join me now in facing the East.

PRAYER TO THE EAST

Read by Mara Kudla, Class of 2024

Turn toward the East
Great spirit of Light, come to me out of the East with your power of the rising sun. Let there be light in my words, let there be light on the path that I walk. Let me remember always that you give the gift of a new day. And never let me be burdened with sorrow by not starting over again.

Hindu Blessing and Tvameva Mata

The act of offering is God. The oblation is God. By God it is offered into the Fire of God. God is That which is to be attained by him who performs action pertaining to God.Becoming the life-fire in the bodies of living beings, mingling with the subtle breaths. I digest the four kinds of food.

You are the mother, you are the father,

You are the family, you are the friend.

You are all wisdom, you are all treasure,

You are my everything, My Lord My Lord.

You are the mother, you are the father,

You are the family, you are the friend.

You are all wisdom, you are all treasure,

You are my everything, My Lord My Lord.

PRAYER TO THE SOUTH

Turn toward the South

Great spirit of Creation, send me the warm and soothing winds of the South. Comfort and caress me when I am tired and cold. Unfold me like the gentle breezes that unfold the leaves on the trees. As you give to all the Earth your warm, moving wind, give to me that I may grow close to you in warmth.

“Care of Allah”

Bava

Oh Allah ! I told You I’m in pain

You said: “do not despair of the mercy of Allah.”

(Quran 39:53)

I told You nobody knows what is in my heart

You said: “Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.”

(Quran 13:28)

I told You many people hurt me

You said: “So pardon them and ask forgiveness for them”

(Quran 3:159)

I told You I feel I’m alone

You said: “We are closer to him than [his] jugular vein.”

(Quran 50:16)

I told You my sins are so many

You said: “and who can forgive sins except Allah?”

(Quran 3:135)

I told You do not leave me

You said: “So remember Me; I will remember you.”

(Quran 2:152)

I told You I’m facing a lot of difficulties in life

You said: “And whoever fears Allah, He will make for him a way out.”

(Quran 65:2)

I told You oh Lord ! I need hope

You said: “Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.”

(Quran 94:6)

I told You I have many dreams

You said: “Call upon Me; I will respond to you.”

(Quran 40:60)

I told You to give me just little but for sure, Oh my Rabb! You Are The Best, you gave me everything. Alhamdulillah. And Now May I, Oh Allah, be among those who have succeeded.. Allahumma Ameen!

PRAYER TO THE WEST

Turn toward the West

Great Life-Giving Spirit, I face the West. Let me remember every day that the moment will come when my sun will go down. Never let me forget that I must fade into you. Give me a beautiful color, give me a great sky for setting, so that when it is my time to meet you, I can come with glory.

Excerpt from Dayenu

If He had supplied our needs in the desert for forty years,

and had not fed us the manna - It would have sufficed!

If He had fed us the manna,

and had not given us the Shabbat - It would have sufficed!

If He had given us the Shabbat,

and had not brought us before Mount Sinai - It would have sufficed!

If He had brought us before Mount Sinai,

and had not given us the Torah - It would have sufficed!

Dayenu, it would have sufficed!

PRAYER TO THE NORTH

Read by Dr. Christine HagedornTurn toward the North

Great Spirit of Love, come to me with the power of the North. Make me courageous when the cold wind falls upon me. Give me strength and endurance for everything that is harsh, everything that hurts, everything that makes me squint. Let me move through life ready to take what comes from the north.

“For the Beauty of the Earth”

Folliot Pierpoint

For the beauty of the earth,

for the glory of the skies,

for the love which from our birth

over and around us lies.

Christ, our Lord, to you we raise

this, our hymn of grateful praise.

For the wonder of each hour

of the day and of the night,

hill and vale and tree and flower,

sun and moon and stars of light,

Christ, our Lord, to you we raise

this, our hymn of grateful praise.

For the joy of human love,

brother, sister, parent, child,

friends on earth, and friends above,

for all gentle thoughts and mild,

Christ, our Lord, to you we raise

this, our hymn of grateful praise.

For yourself, best gift divine,

to the world so freely given,

agent of God's grand design:

peace on earth and joy in heaven.

Christ, our Lord, to you we raise

this, our hymn of grateful praise.

CLOSING BLESSING

Sr. Peg Doyle, VP Mission and Ministry

Let us pray:

We gather in hope and humility

Love and gratitude,

Our minds open,

And our eyes fixed on You who made us.

Let this community born here and now of humility and gratitude

change us and make us new and whole.

Let us learn to learn to see You in everyone and in all things.

And let us find the courage to trust Your guidance

carved so deeply in our hearts.

Your Light is true light.

  1. Amen!

Your Hope is true hope.

  1. Amen!

Your Peace is true peace.

  1. Amen!

And Your Love is true love, and it is enough.

  1. Amen!
