Sociology, Junior

Elizabeth Russell

What advice would you give to your college self?

I would tell my college self to trust her gut and make her voice heard. Intuition is a very real thing and should not be taken lightly.

How would you define “values?"

Values are one of the aspects of our character that guide us through the world and help us to find who and what was meant to flow into our path. They can be seen in everything we do and help to define who we are in a very substantial kind of way.

What does the Rosemont Mission mean to you?

The part of Rosemont’s Mission that has always stuck out to me is, “joy in the pursuit of knowledge.” College as a whole is one huge learning, experience for all who attend… even for those that barely go to class. Through my experience at Rosemont, I have found nothing BUT joy in learning not just the subject matter of my classes, but also essential life lessons like how important it is to play in the snow with your friends if there’s a snow day.

If you were a shoe, what kind would you be and why?

I’d be a Sanuk yoga sandal. They’re made with yoga mat material so they’re super comfy and always look good too.

Would you rather visit Paris, France or Sydney, Australia?

I would, for sure, rather visit Sydney, Australia over Paris. I feel drawn to the seemingly very different sense of culture there. Also, I think it would be cool to see a kangaroo.

Hometown: Clarks Summit, PA

Name 5 things you love (other than your family) or love doing?

  1. The beach in autumn/winter
  2. Sunflowers
  3. My favorite shirt, which actually belonged to my grandfather originally (I wear it as often as is socially acceptable)
  4. Watching the sunrise
  5. Sushi

What goal are you currently trying to achieve?

I am currently working towards getting straight A’s this semester… we’ll see how that goes.

Who or what inspires you?

The successful people in my life inspire me constantly. I’m fortunate enough to have people who have all become successful in very different ways, and it has shown me that the sky’s the limit. Because of them I know it will happen for me as long as I’m finding joy in my every day.

Where is the furthest place you have traveled?

I’ve only been as far as Washington, DC! I haven’t had many chances to go very far quite yet.

Favorite college memory? (from which college?)

One of my favorite memories I’ve made in college so far would definitely be on the winter service trip my freshman year. I made friends on that trip I know I will have for years to come, along with a new passion for service I didn’t ever expect to become such a major part of my life.
