Moe Brooker artThe Patricia M. Nugent Gallery is pleased to announce a new exhibit featuring the paintings of artist Moe Brooker.

The show, Notes to Myself, will be open to the public from February 28 through March 28. An opening reception will take place on Thursday, February 28 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., with an informal gallery talk at 4:30 p.m.

This solo exhibit of the work of Philadelphia-based artist Moe Brooker will captivate the viewer immediately with its joyous color and sweeping line elements. The musicality of these mixed media paintings is immediately seen and felt. Jazz has always influenced the artist, and his work carries us along through his exciting improvisations.

“My work often begins with a question, leading to investigation, resulting in inventions and discovery,” said Brooker. “I see my work as shorthand for the real, in essence a different sense of reality.”

A Philadelphia native, Brooker received his BFA and MFA in painting from the Tyler School of Fine Arts. Brooker’s work can be seen in more than 30 public and corporate collections, such as The Philadelphia Museum of Art, The American Museum of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, Cleveland Clinic, General Motors Corporation, PNC Bank, Absolut Vodka, and the University of Pennsylvania. He has had more than 20 solo exhibitions and more than 20 group exhibitions.

Brooker also held faculty positions at the University of Virginia, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Cleveland Institute of Art, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. In addition, he held positions of foundation department chair of Parson School of Design and Moore College of Art.

The artist has been honored with many awards throughout his career, including the James Van Der Zee award, Governor’s Award for the Arts, Medal of Merit from the Philadelphia Art Alliance, Legacy Award from the African American Museum, and the Penny & Bob Fox Distinguished Professorship from the Moore College of Art.

The Patricia M. Nugent Gallery is located on the Rosemont College Campus, 1400 Montgomery Avenue, Rosemont, PA. The Gallery is open Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., or by appointment. For more information, please call 610-527-0200 X2967.
