Patricia M. Nugent Gallery at Rosemont College Presents the Paintings of Fred Danziger

airstreamThe Patricia M. Nugent Gallery is pleased to announce a new exhibit featuring the paintings of Fred Danziger. The show, titled Paintings: An Overview 1969-2018, will be open to the public from January 24 through February 23. An opening reception will take place on Thursday, January 24 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., with an informal gallery talk at 4:30 p.m. (Event Page)

This solo exhibit of the work of artist Fred Danziger will feature selected paintings from a fifty-year time span. It will include a few of his student works, as well as recent, highly rendered pieces from nature, and a small group of plein air works. The exhibit will illuminate the changes of style and intention Danziger has evolved during his career.

“The most amazing thing to me about painting, is in how formless raw materials are transformed into images of specific meaning,” said Danziger. “Over the years I have gone through changes of ‘what’ I paint, and ‘how’ I paint… but I have never changed the ‘why’ I paint. It is the hardest part to put into words, which are never adequate. I’ll simply say: ‘I need to paint.’ At any specific time, these are the paintings I was meant to do.”

Danziger was born and raised in the Pittsburgh area. He attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia and is now based in the Brandywine Valley. Danziger has exhibited at more than 100 group shows and 18 solo shows. His work can be seen in numerous museum collections, such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art-Museum of American Art, The State Museum of Pennsylvania, The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art, and Wichita Art Museum.

Danziger’s work has also been featured in several illustrations and as cover art on publications such as the State Museum in Harrisburg magazine and the book Massacre at Duffy’s Cut.

He has also been an educator at the Art Institute of Philadelphia and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts from 1997-2002.

Danziger has received many accolades over the years. In October 2018, he was awarded a Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award for his illustrations as part of the documentary “Before Hollywood: Philadelphia and the Birth of the Movies.” In March 2018, he received the Award for Artistic Distinction by the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art.
