SGPS Global Studies
Mary-Kate Kaminski - July 18, 2016
Hello Ravens! My name is Mary-Kate and I am thrilled to take you all along for the SGPS Global Studies trip to Oxford. Students from the Undergraduate, SGPS, and University of the Science undergraduate students as well as Global Studies Staff are heading to the UK in just 17 days! We are all so very excited!
You may have seen the UK, England specifically, in the news a lot lately with 'Brexit" and a new Prime Minister taking center stage in world's media. Indeed, members of the Rosemont community who are going on this trip will have a front row seat as these historic decisions begin to unfold. Having studies abroad in London during my junior year of college, I am aware of the cultural and socio-economic impacts that occur between the United States and the United Kingdom. I look forward to viewing this 'special relationship' with new lens as I travel to England now as a Rosemont student.
Members of this global studies course have met for an introductory class where we learned about the places we will be visiting and topics we will be learning about/discussing. This weekend we will visit Urban Outiftters world headquarters down at the Navy Yard in Philadelphia. Our partnership with Urban through the course will allow us to learn about the process of starting and promoting business overseas. As an MFA candidate, I cannot wait to visit the Oxford University Press and many libraries!
I cannot wait to see all the wonderful experiences academically, personally, and professional that await us on this trip. We hope you will join us. Until then….
