Staff Spotlight: Jazmyn Royall '20

Katie DuBoff - January 20, 2023

Jazmyn Royall, Counseling Intern

Jazmyn Royall returned to Rosemont to complete her graduate counseling internship and is currently in her last semester. Learn more about what drew Jazmyn to Rosemont as an undergraduate and what it’s like for her to be back working as a staff member.

What brought you to Rosemont as an undergraduate?

I first visited Rosemont in 2016 on Accepted Students Day, and there was just something about the campus that told me I belonged here! I graduated from a cyber charter school, and transitioning back into a traditional setting for college was overwhelming. “The power of small” was what I really needed. Everyone was so authentic and welcoming, and I felt an instant connection with the community.

What sorts of activities and clubs were you involved in?

As a student, I served alongside some of the most amazing people in Rosemont’s PAUSE organization (People Against Unwanted Sexual Experiences) and poetry club (RosePoe). I sang in the Cornelia Choir (Glee Club) with some of the most gifted voices I’ve ever heard. I tutored Algebra, English, and ASL in the SASC; and as a member of the Honors Program, I presented at two SEPCHE Honors Conferences. I graduated from Rosemont in 2020 in the midst of the pandemic (the year the world shut down and ran out of toilet paper and Lysol spray) with a bachelor’s in mathematics and English literature.

What is it like being back at Rosemont as an intern?

It brings me so much joy to give back to the Rosemont community by serving students in the Counseling Center! After living and studying here for four years, it feels a little different (in a good way) being back as a member of staff. But I love what I do and couldn’t imagine interning anywhere else. It is a truly amazing experience!

What are you enjoying most about working with our Counseling Center?

What I enjoy most about working with the Counseling Center is the pleasure of accompanying students on their college journey. To best serve this beautiful community, I am surrounded by wonderful, supportive professionals who genuinely care for students and the field of counseling.

What are your future plans as you complete your graduate degree?

I have learned so much, thus far, and I continue to learn every day! I am so happy to say I will be obtaining my MA in Counseling Psychology this May from Eastern University. After earning my masters, I hope to work with adults in various stages of life, specializing in cognitive behavior therapy, Christian counseling, grief counseling, and trauma-focused therapy. As I work toward and obtain my LPC (licensed clinical professional counselor), I look forward to continuing my journey as a lifelong learner.
