February Employee of the Month: Dontay Murphy, Parkhurst Dining Cook

Dontay Murphy Dontay Murphy has been known as the omelet star on campus for the last nine years—and, he says, he’s appreciated "every minute of it." Each morning he greets students with a positive attitude and smiling face when they come to the Community Center for breakfast. Dontay does more than cook and serve the food – he truly gets to know everyone. He remembers students’ orders even if they hadn’t been to breakfast in a while.  

While Dontay has recently transitioned to the 3:30-7:30 p.m. shift, he brings the same enthusiasm to the later part of the day.  

"My favorite part of the job is talking to the students," he said, "holding conversations with them, making them laugh, and them enjoying my company. That’s the reason I’m here." 

And we couldn’t help but ask: What’s Dontay’s favorite food at the cafeteria? His answer: "The grill, of course!" 

Outside the dining hall, Dontay helps to run a landscaping business that serves communities in West Philadelphia and Lower Merion.  

The goal of the Employee of the Month initiative is to recognize faculty and staff who go above and beyond to make Rosemont a better place each day. Dontay has demonstrated time and time again that our community can depend on him.
