Employee of the Month: Angelique Colón, Graduate & Professional Studies Admissions Counselor

Katie DuBoff - April 29, 2022

Angelique Colon and President Jayson BoyersAngelique Colón, known to all on campus as Angie, says she fell in love with the Rosemont campus while on a tour in August 2019 as a prospective transfer student.

“I was already interested in Rosemont because of the seamless partnership with the Community College of Philadelphia,” she said. “The family-like atmosphere sealed the deal and drew me into Rosemont. From faculty and staff to students, everyone supports each other and that was appealing to me while pursuing my degree.”

Since that time, Angie has embedded herself in the Rosemont community as both a student and admissions staff member.

“As I was looking to get out of retail, I was also applying for administrative positions and stumbled upon Rosemont’s Enrollment Office Manager position at the end of 2019. I was lucky in all aspects to work for Rosemont and to be completing my degree here this May.”

This month, Angie will be the first student to graduate from the professional studies BA in Writing Studies program. She is also on the other side of the campus tour process as an admissions counselor. In June 2020, Angie was promoted to UC Admissions Counselor and now serves as SGPS Admissions Counselor working with graduate and professional studies students and program directors.

“I am on the front lines of the College,” she said. “I get to talk about how amazing Rosemont is to prospective students and assist them with the application process. Even after they enroll, I still support students in any way I can - if that is guiding them through the next phase in the enrollment process or pointing them in the direction of other departments for assistance. Sometimes I help with homework, too, if I happen to be in the same class as one of my enrolled students.”

The admissions team notes that Angie embodies the mission and values of Rosemont. She is known for always helping at events and for offering support to colleagues, even if it falls outside her job duties.

When she is not doing homework, giving campus tours, or helping prospective students fill out an application, Angie enjoys going out with friends and her admissions team in her spare time.

“I have a group of friends I only watch Marvel stuff with,” she said. “If we can’t watch together in person, we jump on a Zoom and have a watch party together.”

The whole Rosemont community congratulates Angie on being recognized as May’s Employee of the Month for all her contributions to the College. The goal of the Employee of the Month initiative is to recognize faculty and staff who go above and beyond to make Rosemont a better place each day. Angie has demonstrated repeatedly that our community can depend on her.

“Now that I am the SGPS Admissions Counselor I enjoy helping my population the most,” she notes. “The students are like me, non-traditional students, trying to finish their degrees. It gives me great satisfaction to be able to support these students in the same way that Rosemont has supported me throughout my time in this community.”
