Campus Connections: October 19, 2020

Jayson Boyers, EdD - October 19, 2020

Dear Members of the Rosemont Community,

It is the ninth Monday of our Fall semester.  Term Two of the Fall semester begins today for the Undergraduate College. Here is what is happening at Rosemont.

the POWER of small Podcast

Today, the fifth episode of Rosemont’s first official podcast is being released.  It is an interview with Linda Romanowski ’75 and Karen Fiorillo ’84 ’02 about their roles as the President and President-Elect of the Alumni Association Board of Directors.  You can download this episode and others at  And, how about this?  You can also find the POWER of small Podcast on Spotify and Amazon.

 Undergraduate College Update

As our faculty, staff members and students of the Undergraduate College were made aware last Wednesday, a staff member in the Undergraduate College Office of Admissions tested positive for the coronavirus.  A second staff member also received a positive test result.  As a result, the Office of Admissions has been operating remotely. All other staff of the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid and five Student Ambassadors were tested for COVID-19. All 14 staff members have received negative results from their COVID-19 tests. In addition, four of the five students have also received negative test results, and one student received a positive test result.  Per the guidance from the CDC and our partners at Main Line Health Systems, those staff members and students who were deemed to have had contact with the persons infected will remain off-campus for a total of 14 days, and will be tested again on the 7th day of their self-isolation.  Those staff and students who did not have contact, and were tested in an abundance of caution, return to campus today. The student who received a positive test result will remain in quarantine on campus for 14 days.

PCR Positivity Rate in Montgomery County and Pennsylvania and Rosemont’s Dashboard

The PCR positivity rate in Montgomery County in the last 7 days according to the Commonwealth's COVID-19 Dashboard has decreased to 2.3%, which is lower than the 5% that the CDC has determined is the threshold for in-person instruction to take place. The PCR positivity rate over the last 7 days in the Commonwealth has increased to 4.3%. Rosemont’s cumulative positivity rate since the start of the semester is 1.4%.  A reminder that contains a Dashboard of this information that is updated weekly each Monday.

Wondering What Is Happening on Wendover Road?

The Holy Child School at Rosemont is beginning a construction project that includes expanding their current gym to become a performing arts center, creating more parking, and developing a regulation-sized sports field. They plan to post the plans and other information on their website soon.

SHCJ Invite to Join in Prayer for Our Common Home

As part of the celebration of their 175th Anniversary, the Sisters of the Holy Child Jesus are inviting us to join in renewing and strengthening our commitment to take concrete action to care for what Pope Francis calls “Our Common Home.” This same phrase is part of Rosemont’s mission statement.

Visit the SHCJ website for more information.

Sunday Reflections From Jeanne Marie Hatch, SHCJ

Don’t forget that each Sunday, Sr. Jeanne Hatch, the College’s former Vice President for Mission, treats the College community to insightful reflections on the day’s Gospel and New and Old Testament Readings. You can read them on the Campus Ministry page of the College's website.

Thanks for reading and connecting with campus.  I’ll be back with more next Monday.
