Campus Connections: April 19, 2022

Jayson Boyers, EdD - April 19, 2022

Dear Members of the Rosemont Community,

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter break. We wish Happy Orthodox Easter to all who celebrate Easter next Sunday and Happy Passover to the Jewish members of our community.

With this time of year comes a lot of excitement to finish the academic year…and stress to complete final projects and exams. If you need support, please remember the Counseling Center is a wonderful resource for our community.

Rosemont Alum and Current Student Attend NCAA's Final Four Tournament

Two members of the Rosemont community worked at the recent NCAA Final Four events in New Orleans, Louisiana. Tobi Joshuasville '21, a sport management major at Rosemont who is now a graduate student at Syracuse University, attended the Final Four in New Orleans with the NCAA. Brittney Strauss '22, a political science and sports governance major, attended the Final Four as a volunteer with the New Orleans host committee.

Volunteers Needed for Admitted Students Day

On April 23, in-person Admitted Students Day is returning to Rosemont! Admitted Students will be invited to join us on campus to learn more about the Rosemont College experience. We need your help! With the help of volunteers, the students will be able to have a memorable day filled with exciting activities across campus. Depending on your availability, volunteers are expected to help with set up, directing students/families around campus, assisting staff with various tasks, clean up, and most importantly; representing Rosemont College in the best way possible! By the end of the day, the students will have a clearer picture of their life as a Raven—and we are hoping you can be a part of that journey! If you would like to join, please fill out the volunteer form. Thank you for your help!

Good News

There are endless examples of amazing things happening at Rosemont. We need your help in amplifying these stories so that everyone can share the pride in the individuals that help to make Rosemont an amazing community.

We recently joined students, faculty, and staff from other Catholic colleges and Newman Centers in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia to participate in the global synod process, in which attendees shared with Archbishop Nelson Perez their hopes and concerns regarding issues including LGBTQIA+ inclusion, women’s roles in the Church, and a need for unity within the Church.

A written draft summarizing every listening session will be sent to the Archbishop’s office and then to the Vatican, where the voices of Rosemont will join the rest of the Church. Thank you to all who participated!

Do you have good news you think our community may want to know? Fill out the submission form.

Alumni Video Series

As part of our Centennial year of celebration, we spoke with nine accomplished and diverse alumni who shared their personal stories of how Rosemont College’s mission and values have shaped their chosen path in life. Please join us in listening to their reflections about Rosemont’s spirit, how they felt seen and heard in a learning community where professors fostered independent thinking and personal growth, and what it has meant to be part of a caring and supportive community imbued with respect for each person while building friendships that have endured long after graduation.

Note that the following interviews were recorded via Zoom during the Centennial year.

Winifred Wolfe, MD '12

Winnie Wolfe notes that the more she learned about Rosemont, the more she knew that it was the place she needed to be and where she belonged. She felt very well-prepared for medical school, reflecting on a collaborative environment, rigor in classes, and excellence in teaching. For Wolfe, Rosemont was very welcoming of all faiths and backgrounds, and fostered a curiosity to learn about who people are and what they value.

Watch Winnie’s alumni interview.

April Centennial Reflection

Jeanne Marie Hatch, SHCJ, delves into the challenges of gun violence. “All of us are complex individuals living in a complex world. Our races, cultures, economies, ethnicities, governments, political views, religious beliefs, and traditions create extraordinary diversity. Where can we begin to solve the complicated quandary of gun violence across our country? In face of this overwhelming crisis, we bring our plight to prayer.” Listen to the April reflection

Campus Ministry

Mass will be celebrated at 4 pm in the Chapel on Sunday, April 24. Food and fellowship will follow. All are invited.
