The Department of Residential Life at Rosemont College is committed to developing and implementing a living/learning community in an effort to promote and enhance the intellectual and personal development of each student residing on campus. The department focuses on guiding students through their transition to the college experience and connecting them to the residential and campus communities as well as the community beyond the college. This will be accomplished by fostering an environment where each student is respected and diverse perspectives and contributions are appreciated. It will primarily be achieved through individual connections as well as a broad range of programming initiatives. The department also strives to ensure that facilities are safe and comfortable by serving as a liaison to Public Safety, Facilities, and Operations
Main Objectives:
1. To ensure a quality living/learning environment
Objectives:
- Serve as a liaison to various departments in an effort to ensure safety and comfortable facilities
- Ensure that residence hall policies and procedures are understood and enforced in order to maintain a stable, safe, and respectful community
- Educate residents on potential barriers to academic success (i.e. alcohol and drug use)
2. To connect students within the residential, campus, and larger communities
Objectives:
- Provide programs and services that will allow students to interact and become involved within the residential community
- Increase opportunities to connect to campus and off-campus communities by keeping students informed of resources, programs and services, and by drawing upon the larger community in hall programming efforts
- Mediate and assist in the resolution of student conflicts
- Serve as a resource to students with various needs and/or issues and guide them to the appropriate campus/off-campus resources
3. To recognize the individuality and contributions of each resident student to the Rosemont Community
Objectives:
- Seek to listen, respect, and understand the perspective of the individual resident
- Recognize, appreciate, and celebrate diversity and foster an environment of respect within the halls
- Empower men and women to take a leadership role within the halls
- Honor residents for their contribution to the community by maintaining informal connections
Residence Halls
Each residence hall is equipped with a security access card system. Students living in the residence halls use their I.D. cards to access their building. Laundry, kitchen, and vending facilities are available for student use in every hall. In addition, most rooms have their own sink for convenience and privacy. Each resident may purchase cable television services and every room is computer compatible and has call waiting and local metro phone service. Long distance service is also available for purchase.

Staffing Information
Each Residence Hall has student and professional staff members available to assist resident students.
Desk Staff
Each Residence Hall has a front desk that is staffed by resident students during certain weekend hours and when there is heavy visitation traffic. The primary role of the desk staff is to assist residents with signing in guests.
Resident Assistants
The Resident Assistants are student leaders who coordinate educational programs and fun activities. There is also a Resident Assistant on duty every night to assist in monitoring the safety and security of the building.There is an RA located on every floor of each residence hall. It is the responsibility of the RA to plan activities/programs that foster an atmosphere of community within the hall, which in turn will enhance the lives of the residents. The RA is expected to be available to students and to encourage them to become an active member of the residence hall community.
In addition, the RA facilitates the development of a positive and safe living environment. The RA assists the Residence Coordinator in providing for the safety of each individual resident through specific procedures such as fire drills, incident reports, assigned duty days/weekends, and hall openings and closings.
Residence Coordinator
The Residence Coordinator is a live-in professional who has earned their undergraduate degree and is working towards a graduate degree. The Residence Coordinator is responsible for supervising the student staff members, monitoring the facilities of each residence hall, and providing support and guidance for the resident students. There is a Residence Coordinator on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Residence Coordinator's have offices in Kaul and Heffernan Halls with posted office hours.

Frequently Asked Questions
1) What furnishings are provided?
All double rooms contain:
2 twin beds (mattresses and box springs)
2 desks w/chairs
2 dressers w/mirrors
mini blinds
closet space for each student
sink w/vanity
Internet and phone access
Mattresses are provided, but pillows and linens are not provided.
Everything that a student finds in a room must stay in the room. Furniture may not be moved from the room, as there are no available storage spaces.
2) What is the size of each room?
The following measurements are approximate:
Kaul - 12' 5" x15' 7"
Connelly/Heffernan/Mayfield: Room sizes vary widely
Note: Connelly Hall is carpeted. All other dorm are not; students are welcome to bring carpeting if they so choose.
3) May students have appliances?
The following electrical appliances are authorized for use in student rooms (provided that they are in good working order):
Radio/Stereo -Television
Desk lamp (no greater than 60 watt bulb)
Coffee maker (automatic shut off)
Clock -Fan
Hairsetter -Hair Dryer (portable)
Refrigerator (4.0 cu. ft. maximum) -Microwave

4) Will Students have Internet usage in their rooms?
Students have access to the Internet in their rooms. Information will be provided when the student arrives on campus and through mailings throughout the summer months.
5) Are phones available in each room? Does it interfere with Internet use?
The Internet will not interfere with a student being able to receive phone calls. They are two separate lines.
Phones are not provided; one of the residents must bring a phone for the room. The students have unlimited local calling. Students will also have the option to sign up for a reasonable long-distance carrier; please contact the Residential Life office for more information. Students can use calling cards.
Please note that for security purposes, Rosemont College will not release the phone numbers of resident students to anyone off-campus. The student is responsible for providing her phone number to family and friends.
6) How do I sign up for cable television service?
Contact Comcast Cable at 215.673.6600. Tell them you are a Rosemont College resident student and would like to sign up for a cable plan. Students are responsible for all bills and discontinuing service at the end of the semester. Cable representatives are also on campus during the first two weeks of the fall semester.
7) Is there storage space available?
Personal storage is not offered. We do not currently have available storage space.
8) Who does the cleaning?
Housekeepers are employed by the College to clean hallways, bathrooms, lounges, and all public areas. Students should bring cleaning supplies for their own rooms.
9) Are there laundry machines available for student use?
Washers and dryers are located in laundry rooms in the residence halls. The machines are coin operated.
