2006-2007 Season Overview The Rosemont volleyball team ended their season on Tuesday, October 24 with a loss to College Misericordia. The Ramblers finished their season with an overall record of 0-22 overall and a 0-11 record in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference. Though the record does reflect it, the Ramblers made many strides especially considering over half the team consisted of new players. They had very strong matches against non-conference rivals Chestnut Hill College and Lincoln University, losing both in 5 games. The Ramblers also said goodbye to lone senior and captain Veronica Bates (Gradyville, PA/Padua Academy). Bates has been a solid starter since coming to Rosemont in her sophomore year.Along with the new players, the Ramblers also welcomed two new coaches in Joe Gillespie and Megan Whitman. Gillespie stepped into the head coach role while Whitman took over as assistant coach. Gillespie has had great success as the head coach for Collingswood High School Boys Volleyball and Whitman was an All-Conference player at Rosemont before graduating in 2006. Both Gillespie and Whitman looked to build the team throughout the year. Statistically, the Ramblers had a couple standouts. Bates led the team in kills, digs, and aces with 127, 284, and 51 respectively. Bates was also a conference leader with digs averaging 4.44 per game placing her in the top 5. Also showing some offensive power was first-year Jessica DeMesky (West Chester, PA/West Chester East). DeMesky was second on the team in kills with 49 and first on the team in blocks with 12. Helping out Bates and DeMesky was junior Blair Armstrong (Philadelphia, PA/Little Flower). Armstrong led the team in assists with 120. As a team, the Ramblers had a total of 111 aces, 239 kills, and 554 digs. The Ramblers will look to build around the new players this year. Both Gillespie and Whitman are excited about the prospects for next year's team and believe that with hard work, the team can make a much stronger showing next year. |
