2006-2007 Season Overview
The Rosemont College tennis team wrapped up their season on Saturday, October 14th with a loss to Eastern University. They finished the season with an overall record of 2-13, going 0-11 in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC). The Ramblers were strong against non-conference opponents, wining 2 of the 4 non-conference competitions against Goldey-Beacom and Chestnut Hill Colleges. PAC teams proved to be too strong, and the Ramblers were unable to get team victories.
First-year student Priyanka Reddy (Syosset, NY/Syosset) stepped into the #1 singles slot and made a huge impact right away. Reddy was undefeated the entire season going 13-0 on the season. She also defeated last year's PAC champion from Cabrini College. She was named PAC player of the week four times throughout the season and was chosen as the PAC Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year. Reddy also made it to PAC Championships for #1 singles and won the competition, making her PAC Champion for #1 singles. Reddy also qualified for #1 doubles in the championships with partner and team captain Kristy Bannon (Hanover, PA/Hanover Area). Bannon and Reddy made it to the semifinals before losing to the eventual champions from Cabrini College. Bannon had a strong season at #2 singles going 6-4 in the PAC and 8-6 overall. She also qualified for #2 singles for the championships. She gave a strong performance but was unable to overcome the #1 seed in the bracket from Cabrini losing 8-5. The Ramblers will lose three seniors this year. Captain Kelsey Buesing (Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Township), Anne Blessington (Holland, PA/Archbishop Wood), and Sharyn Cieszynski (Trevose, PA/Archbishop Wood) all graduate from the team and will be missed. Buesing has led the team for the past two years as captain and has been a strong presence on the court. Blessington and Cieszynski have become strong keystones for the team since picking up the sport in their sophomore year. Round out the team are sophomores Jessica Williams (Ardmore, PA/Archbishop Carroll) and Joanne Campbell (Malvern, PA/Sacred Heart) and freshman Laura Occhipinti (Scranton, PA/Scranton Prep). Williams has made great strides this year since picking up a racquet in her freshman year and both Campbell and Occhipinti are good pick-ups for a strong developing team. With their solid core of starters returning, the Ramblers will look to make another strong showing in the PAC and improve their record. |
