What is your favorite city/town? Why?
This is tough because I have a few that I love. Clearwater Beach, Florida is where I want to retire. I was born in Massachusetts (Dad was in the Air Force), so I’ve always enjoyed Boston. But for a major city, Chicago in the summer is incredible with the restaurants, the nightlife, and the lake right there.
Who or what inspires you?
My parents inspired me. My late father was a police officer in Philadelphia. My mom ran a pharmacy near our house. They worked hard every day for their family. That’s the best inspiration you can have.
What is the furthest you have ever traveled?
I’ve been to Seattle twice. Not a big trip, I know. Honestly, I want to go to Europe before I turn 50.
How do you relieve stress?
Keep telling myself that a lot of people have it a lot worse than I do and not to take yourself so damn seriously.
What is your favorite sandwich?
You can’t beat a great chicken parm sandwich.
What would you like a prospective student to know most about Rosemont?
The people here are going to help you, they care about you as a person and a student, not just as a number, and they will do anything they can to help you get to your goals.
Describe your favorite day off.
Probably a ballgame on the television, the family around the house and steaks on the grill out back..
Name 5 things you love (other than your family) or love doing?
- Playing golf with my friends
- I love traveling with my wife and stepkids. Took my wife to Chicago last summer and my stepson to Boston for the first time. It was awesome to see how much they loved it.
- Clearwater Beach. I spent the past 10 springs there when I covered the Phillies. When I retire, that’s where I’m going.
- Playing with my two dogs- Finley (age 2 ½) and Fergus (age 1). They make me laugh.
- Notre Dame football. Since I was a kid, that has been our family passion on Saturday’s in the fall.
What advice would you give your college self?
First, maybe don’t go so hard on the cheesesteaks and mozzarella sticks. Second, enjoy every bit of learning and soak in every experience because it will make you a better person when you are older.
What does the Rosemont mission mean to you?
I think the best thing I can do to help out the mission is to show that the future is there for them if they open their minds to possibilities and are willing to work hard for them.
Would you rather be invisible or be able to read minds?
A journalist always believes they can read minds. A 6-6 guy always- deep down- wants to be invisible. The mind reading is more useful.
