Update - June 17, 2013

In the last 4 weeks, the following progress has been made in Cardinal Hall:

  • Completed abatement of asbestos from old ceiling spaces
  • Completely gutted all interior ceilings and walls in areas to be renovated
  • Began reconstruction of new interior walls
  • Began new electrical, plumbing and mechanical work
  • Began demolition in preparation for installation of new roof

We anticipate that the following will be happening in the next few weeks:

  • Roof and rooftop mechanicals will be completed
  • Interior Plumbing and electrical installations will continue
  • Interior walls, including glass partitions, will be installed
  • Flooring installation will begin
  • Installation of kitchen equipment and casework will begin

During the third week of May, work began on our athletic fields to reposition our soccer/lacrosse (multi-purpose) field and our softball field, so that two games can be played simultaneously.

The first step of the project has been to remove the trees necessary for the repositioning of the fields. In accordance with the site plan approved by the Township, 72 trees will be removed from the site. At the end of the project, 126 trees will be replanted, along with extensive shrubbery, perennials and ground cover. We expect this phase of the project to be complete by early next week (depending on weather). At that point the contractors will begin to dismantle the current field facilities and move earth to prepare for the construction of the new fields. One of the final phases of the project will include the installation of lights, as approved by the Township.

Project Overview - Cardinal Hall

Rosemont College is currently renovating Cardinal Hall to transform its cafeteria, built in 1956, into a state-of-the-art dining hall, complete with food stations, flexible seating, and a cafe. The transformation will be complete by mid-August --- just in time to welcome the incoming Class of 2017 and all returning undergraduate and graduate/professional studies students!

Rosemont College has long-term plans to renovate Cardinal Hall to create a Community Center. The Community Center will be a “town hall commons” on campus for use by students, faculty, staff, and members of the local community.

The renovation project will include an upgraded dining facility and cafe (phase one), reconfigured community spaces for large scale events, spaces for student activities, as well as offices and public spaces for the College’s newly established Institute for Ethical Leadership and Social Responsibility. The project will be completed in phases over time. The entire Community Center will be approximately 67,000 square feet in total, as now conceptualized.
