Rosemont College is pleased to welcome Dr. Liana De Girolami Cheney of the University of Massachusetts at Lowell for a special lecture on Monday, October 8th at 6:00 p.m. in Main Building. Dr. Cheney’s presentation, “The artistic genius of Giorgio Vasari,” is free and open to students, faculty, staff, alumni, and members of the public.

Born in Tuscany in 1511, Vasari was a painter, architect, historian, and writer. He is well known for his biographies of Renaissance artists, particularly those contained in his 1550 book The Lives of the Most Excellent Italian Painters, Sculptors, and Architects, from Cimabue to Our Times. Subjects of the book included da Vinci, Bramante, Raphael, and Michelangelo.

Dr. Cheney has researched and written about Giorgio Vasari for numerous articles, books, and presentations throughout her prolific scholarly career. Her most recent books include Giorgio Vasari: Artistic and Emblematic Manifestations, Giorgio Vasari’s Prefaces: Art and Theory, and Giorgio Vasari in Context.

Currently Professor of History of Art and Coordinator of History of Art at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, Dr. Cheney also chairs Department of Cultural Studies. She holds a Ph.D. in Renaissance and Mannerist Art, with a minor in Baroque Art, from Boston University.

No registration is required to attend Dr. Cheney's lecture.
