Are You Prepared to Vote?

Posted: September 21, 2012

Are you ready to cast your vote this November? Here is some important information about registration deadlines, how to get informed, and the new Pennsylvania Voter ID Law.

If you still need to register to vote, decide first whether to register using your home or school address. If it’s easy for you to travel home on Election Day or you want to vote by absentee ballot, registering at home address is likely best. If you prefer to vote at the polling place nearest to Rosemont College, you may register using your school address. To vote in the November 6, 2012 presidential election, you must be registered no later than:

  • October 9 in PA
  • October 16 in NJ
  • October 12 in NY

If you are voting by absentee ballot, most states require you apply by October 30. Completed absentee ballots must be received by November 2 in PA. Check yourvoteyourvoice.org for additional state deadlines.

All polls in PA are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you register using your Rosemont College address, your polling place is Ashbridge House (1301 W. Montgomery Ave, Bryn Mawr).

Pennsylvania’s new Voter ID Law requires you show photo ID to vote. Acceptable forms include:

  • PA driver’s license
  • Photo ID issued by PA or the U.S. government
  • Valid U.S. passport
  • U.S. military ID
  • Rosemont College ID with visible expiration date

Don’t have any of these? You may visit Rosemont's Office of Public Safety to add an expiration date to your student ID, or call 1-877-VotesPA to learn how you may be able to obtain one free.

Finally, get informed! There are many resources available online to help voters learn about the candidates and issues:
