Hundreds Celebrate Rosemont's Family Weekend, 90th Anniversary

This weekend, Rosemont College welcomed more than 500 students, parents, family members, faculty, staff, alumni, trustees, neighbors, and friends to campus for Family Weekend 2011. The festivities included a bonfire, Ravens athletic events, casino night, children’s activities, class of 2006 fifth reunion, and a unique cake to celebrate the college’s 90th anniversary.

The cake, delivered Saturday afternoon, was a three-foot tall replica of Rosemont’s castle-like Main Building. Details including turrets, grotesques, light posts, balconies, and even patio furniture were recreated in approximately 250 pounds of chocolate and vanilla cake, frosting, fondant, and modeling chocolate.

The confection was brought to life by the creative minds at Carlo’s Bake Shop in Hoboken, NJ, featured on the TLC show Cake Boss. Its safe journey from Hoboken to Rosemont was ensured by the bakery’s Mauro “Chef Mario” Castano, who was on hand to greet President Sharon Latchaw Hirsh and members of the college community as they arrived at Cardinal Hall for the anniversary celebration.

Before the cake was cut, the group gathered outside on Alumni Terrace for an “Our Community of Learners” photo to be featured on the winter 2012 cover of Rosemont Magazine.
