The Society of the Holy Child Jesus (SHCJ), which founded Rosemont College in 1921, marks a significant anniversary this year. On August 12, 1862, six SHCJ sisters arrived in New York after a long journey by boat. They were the first of the order to serve in the Americas.
A series of events to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the SHCJ in the Americas will take place from January 8 to October 15, 2012. At Rosemont, this spring’s Founders’ Days will feature a special lecture and Mass. The lecture, titled “SHCJ sail on the Scotia to the USA, 1862,” will be held Wednesday, April 11 at 4:00 p.m. in Main Building. Mass will take place Thursday, April 12 at 12:05 p.m. in Immaculate Conception Chapel. It will honor both the SHCJ anniversary and the 70th anniversary of the Chapel.
All members of the Rosemont community are welcome at both events. More information on the 150th anniversary of the SHCJ in the Americas can be found here.
