Homestay Volunteers Needed for Ferris Program

Posted: April 29, 2013

Every August, Rosemont College hosts 20 Japanese students from Ferris University in Yokohama Japan for a three-week intensive course in English language and culture - this year marks the 11th anniversary!

This three-week intensive program keeps the students very busy and features a variety of activities, including English language courses every morning in Lawrence Hall, a series of lectures and workshops to experience American culture, a tour of historic Philadelphia, a Phillies game, a trip to New York and Washington D.C., to name a few.

We are currently looking for American families interested in hosting two female students from Japan for two nights. The home visit will take place during the August 9-11 weekend. Please let me know if you are, and if someone you know is interested in being a host family this year. A host family will be asked to pick up the students Friday evening (8/9), spend the weekend with them, and bring them back to campus by Sunday night (8/11). All participating families will be invited to a graduation dinner on Tuesday, August 20 at Rosemont and receive a small “thank you” gift at the end of the program.

If you are interested, please contact Akiko Barnes by April 30 at or at 215-868-1282 or Dr. Rich Leiby at or 610-527-0200, ext. 2312.

We've been in touch with the Japanese students who came to Rosemont in the past, and they are still very happy about their unforgettable experiences here at Rosemont. Some students returned to Rosemont to study for a full academic year, and some students came to visit Rosemont during their break time.
