Rosemont, PA & Drexel Hill, PA –Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High School started their college partnership program in the fall of 2012 and it has more than doubled since that time. The pioneers of the program are Chestnut Hill College and Neumann University. Enrollment in the classes that Chestnut Hill and Neumann offer on the Bonner & Prendergast campus has grown from seven students in a class to thirty in class. This fall, Rosemont College joined them to offer their students a college art program on Saturday mornings.
The focus of the partnerships is to allow the 97 percent of Bonner & Prendergast’s student body that goes to college after graduation to get a jump start on their college career while they are still in high school, without having to leave their campus. This program is dual enrollment, which means that students receive both honors high school credit and college credits. Juniors and seniors may take up to six credits a semester and no more than fifteen credits per year (includes summer semester). Students can graduate with thirty college credits; this translates to quite a cost savings for the participating students.
According to Mrs. Diana Goggin, a parent of a Bonner & Prendergast student, “When the College Partnership Program began last year, I thought it would be a good alternative to my son having open periods at the end of every day. It turned out to be so much more than that. He entered college in the fall with 6 additional elective credits and with an idea of what college classes entail. In addition, he really enjoyed them! So this year, it was a given that my junior would take the classes as well. It is a huge benefit that Bonner & Prendie is affording our children and one which our parents and students should take advantage. The cost savings alone is wonderful!”
