Timothy Martin to Celebrate 100th Anniversary of James Joyce's The Dubliners

Rosemont College is pleased to host a special lecture with Timothy Martin, Ph.D. in celebration of the 100th anniversary of James Joyce's The Dubliners. The title of Martin’s lecture is “Two ‘Epiphanies’ in James Joyce’s Dubliners" and will be held on Tuesday, October 22 at 7 p.m. in McShain Center for the Performing Arts at Rosemont College. This special lecture is sponsored by The Bolger Fund for the Promotion and Study of the History and Culture of Ireland and is free and open to all with a light reception to follow.

Dr. Martin is the author of Joyce and Wagner: A Study of Influence (Cambridge, 1991) and co-editor of Joyce in Context (Cambridge, 1992) and of Joyce on the Threshold (Florida UP, 2005). He was also the guest editor of a special double issue of the James Joyce Quarterly on “Joyce and Opera” (2001) and a presenter at numerous conferences and international symposiums. Dr. Martin is a frequent invited lecturer at the James Joyce Summer School in Dublin and the Trieste (Italy) James Joyce Summer School.

Dr. Martin’s professional service includes directing the 1989 national Joyce conference in Philadelphia and co-chairing the academic program of the 2000 International Joyce Symposium in London. He also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the International James Joyce Foundation (2004-10).

Currently, Dr. Martin serves as Associate Professor of English and Director of the Honors College at Rutgers University-Camden.

The Bolger Fund was established by the late Dr. S. Garrett Bolger, emeritus professor of English literature at Rosemont College, and his wife, Patricia, in 2008. Dr. Bolger, who passed away in May 2013, had joined the Rosemont College faculty in 1958 and spent his life's work in service to the College and his students.
