General Education Requirements for All Undergraduates
Entering The Rosemont College
School of Professional Studies
On or after Session AA (fall) 2009

Rosemont College has revised its General Education requirements, effective for all new students entering
the School of Professional Studies on or after Session AA, in the fall of 2009. The new requirements are designed to provide all Rosemont College students with the knowledge, skills and attributes that will support
their further learning, incorporate theCollege mission in their understanding, and prepare them to enact
the mission in their professional, social and civic lives.

The General Education requirements include:

OLO 0100: Rosemont eConnections (no credit; prerequisite to all credit-bearing courses in the Schools
of Graduate and Professional Studies). Students entering Rosemont College in session AA of 2009 may
have a maximum of five weeks to complete Rosemont eConnections, but all new students entering after September 1, 2009 will complete the course prior to their first credit-bearing course.
Rosemont eConnections
will be provided to all new students in their online accounts in the Epsilen instructional system used by
SGPS upon enrollment.

Problem Solving and Critical Thinking (6 credits)

Social Science (6 credits)
Creative Expression (3 credits)
Science (3 credits)
Sustainability (3 credits)
Ethics in Action (6 credits)
Religious Studies (6 credits)

Global Awareness (6 credits)

Transfer credit, credit by examination, and credit for successful Prior Learning Assessment portfolios
are acceptable in lieu of all General Education requirements except Rosemont eConnections and
College Writing II (ENG 0170).

Rosemont eConnections

All students must take Rosemont eConnections, a non-credit, online course, prior to their first three-credit course. The course is managed by the eConnections advisor, who is online daily to provide support and assistance. The course provides initial diagnostic assessments enabling advisors to determine placement
in writing courses. It also includes basic tutorials for students who need assistance with information technology and a technology diagnostic, and the opportunity to undertake a learning styles inventory.  In addition, general resources, tools, and College contact information are posted in this course, which will then be available for reference and refreshers throughout the student's enrollment at Rosemont.

Students are advised to complete the eConnections course prior to enrollment in their first credit-bearing
course at Rosemont, with the exception of students beginning their studies at Rosemont in Session AA
of 2009: these may complete it prior to the fifth week of enrollment at the College. Students taking their
first credit-bearing course at Rosemont online must complete the course prior to beginning that course.

College Writing Requirements

To best prepare students to succeed in Rosemont's accelerated adult undergraduate tracks and programs,
all of which are writing-intensive, students must fulfill two writing courses, ENG 160 College Writing I and ENG 170 College Writing II, prior to taking any further coursework at Rosemont. Students may transfer in credit for ENG 160, but all students will take ENG 170 at Rosemont as a prerequisite to all other
three-credit courses.

In some cases students who are given transfer credit for a writing course may still be required to take ENG 160 College Writing I at Rosemont based on diagnostics, or may be required to take a developmental tutorial first and then College Writing I. Student placement in either developmental tutorials or College Writing I or II will be determined by diagnostics. In cases where students have received transfer credit for a college-level writing course, but are still required to take the first course at Rosemont, the transfer credit will be noted as an elective. Students placed in writing tutorials or ENG 160 are required to complete these immediately to ensure success
in all subsequent coursework at Rosemont.

English 160: Composition and Critical Thought provides opportunities to practice the basic writing skills expected of students enrolled in all further courses at Rosemont. English 170: Writing and Research provides instruction in academic writing, research resources, and the construction of an academic argument. The School of Professional Studies requires all students to use APA style in all written assignments for all undergraduate courses, which is taught in English 170.

Courses Fulfilling General Education Requirements

The chart that follows lists all courses that are now available or under development as of September, 2009 that can be taken to satisfy General Education requirements. No one General Education listing may be used to fulfill more than one General Education requirement; however, a number of required and elective courses in the business and criminal justice programs may be used to fulfill both the program requirement and the General Education requirement. These are indicated with a + sign. The tracks in which they also fulfill a program requirement are indicated in parentheses.

Most of the courses on the list below, but not all, will be offered in the 2009-10 Academic Year
(Sessions AA-JJ). Updates to the course list, especially to introduce courses currently under development
and listed as "TBA" will be made on the iWay under the Student Services tab, on the iWay Course
Schedule, and through information obtainable from your program Director or Student Services advisors
