MFA in Creative Writing - Poetry or Fiction
Admission Requirements
All applicants must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited 4-year college or university, preferably with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Before the Admissions Committee can make its decision, applications must be complete and include:
- Application form, including a Statement of Purpose, detailing your goals in earning an MFA in Creative Writing, 500 words maximum;
- Official transcripts for all previous undergraduate (and graduate) studies;
- Non-refundable application fee of $50.00 (check or money order made payable to Rosemont College);
- Three letters of recommendation (at least one should address the student's writing ability), preferably from former professors and/or professional colleagues or supervisors (please avoid obtaining letters from family or personal friends);
- A writing sample, submitted electronically. Your full name, date of submission, email, and phone number should appear on the first page. On each subsequent page, your full name should appear as the header along with the page number.
- For fiction/nonfiction, a maximum of twenty pages. The submission may be an excerpt from a longer work, preferably from the opening.
- For poetry, submit five poems.
- For playwriting, submit the opening of one scene/act (approximately twenty
pages) - Include with the writing sample a one-page reflection in which you discuss why you selected this particular writing and what areas you'd like to develop while in the program.
- For applicants whose native language is not English, official copies of TOEFL examination scores are also required.
