Course of Study
Degree Requirements
36 credit hours of graduate study, encompassing:
- 1 course in Literary Theory
- 1 course in literature before 1660 (i.e., Seminar in Classical Readings; Seminar in Medieval Literature)
- 2 - 3 courses in literature between 1660 and 1900. (i.e., Renaissance Studies, Victorian Readings, 18th Century Poetry & Prose, Shakespeare in Performance)
- 2 courses in literature between 1900 and 2000 (i.e., Seminar in the Modern Novel, Modern Poetry)
- 4 electives (electives can, and should, include work in more "specialized" courses, such as "Perceptions of Witchcraft in Literature," "Ethnic Women's Literature," "The Irish Novel," and other Special Topics in Literature)
- 1 publishing/writing course (optional)
- Thesis
- Comprehensive Exam
