Admission Requirements
Admission Requirements for the Master's Degree Programs
Applicants for the Master's degree must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited 4-year college or university, preferably with a GPA of 3.0 or higher (some exceptions may apply).
Prerequisites:
- All candidates seeking Certification must have satisfactorily completed 2 college-level courses in English (composition, literature) and 2 college-level courses in mathematics.
- Candidates seeking Elementary Certification must have completed the following additional prerequisites at the college level: Basic Psychology, Laboratory Science (including coverage of environmental studies), and US History.
- Any deficiency in prerequisites may be fulfilled while candidates are enrolled in the program.
Application materials may be obtained from the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies or online at the College website. Before the Admissions Committee can make its decision, applications must be complete and include:
- Application form;
- Official transcripts for all previous undergraduate and graduate studies;
- Non-refundable application fee of $50.00 (check or money order made payable to Rosemont College);
- Three letters of recommendation, preferably from former professors and/or professional colleagues or supervisors (please avoid obtaining letters from family or personal friends);
- Statement of purpose;
- For applicants whose native language is not English, official copies of TOEFL examination scores are also required.
Admission Requirements for Elementary Certification as a Separate Credential
Candidates who have already earned a baccalaureate degree may pursue Certification as a separate credential. Candidates' credentials must be reviewed for completion of all college-level prerequisites; any deficiency in prerequisites may be fulfilled while candidates are enrolled in the program of study. In addition, candidates must submit the following:
- Application form;
- Official transcripts for all previous undergraduate (and graduate) programs plus photocopies of catalog course descriptions for all prerequisite courses;
- Non-refundable transcript evaluation fee of $50.00 (check or money order made payable to Rosemont College).
Following an individualized transcript evaluation, candidates will be notified in writing of the requirements for Certification. Typically, these include coursework, Student Teaching (for Instructional I Certification), Praxis Assessments, and any additional work deemed necessary to fulfill Pennsylvania State Department of Education standards.
