Trends in Digital Publishing

Thomas V Hartmann is a digital content producer and strategist, an Associate at Sheree Bykofsky, Inc. Literary Agency, and a faculty member in Rosemont’s Graduate Publishing Program. Over the course of nearly 20 years in the publishing industry, Mr. Hartmann has developed digital content for a range of publishers and publications, including Harcourt College, Pearson/Prentice Hall, and most recently Stated magazine, for which he has produced and directed Web video content. Previously, Mr. Hartmann was a Senior Editor at John Wiley and Sons and a commissioning editor at Elsevier. He has contributed articles, reviews and other writing to The Photo Review, Philadelphia Inquirer, Pif magazine, La Petite Zine, and other publications. His photographs have appeared recently in N + 1, Chicago Reader, and online at  

Scott Chappell's career has included both the non- and for-profit education industries with a significant concentration on art and design. He has most recently maintained a consulting group called Back Next that has led the online publishing strategies of Pearson Education's Creative Pro Group, performed content development and marketing for the Graphic Artists Guild, and developed a semester-long graduate class for Savannah College of Art and Design that tackled the question, "What is a book?" As lead facilitator for The World Game Institute he conducted globalization issues workshops internationally. He also founded a user-oriented design agency called i-silver prior to joining start-up online college of design where he developed curriculum, recruited faculty and was CMO. 

Don Lafferty’s short fiction has appeared in NEEDLE MAGAZINE, CRIME FACTORY MAGAZINE, SHOTGUN HONEY and a number of other markets and anthologies. He’s written corporate communication, marketing and advertising copy, and feature magazine articles.
Don is a regular speaker, teacher and the Chief Marketing Officer of the digital marketing agency, Mingl Marketing Group. He’s a member of the Liars Club, the social media director of the Wild River Review, and serves on the board of directors of the Philadelphia Writers’ Conference. 

Calvin Reid is a senior news editor at Publishers Weekly and coeditor of PW Comics World, an online coverage and email newsletter on comics and graphic novel publishing. He has been an editor at PW since 1987. Originally from Washington D.C., he graduated from Howard University (BFA) in D.C. and from Virginia Commonwealth University (MFA) in Richmond Va. He covers all kinds of general publishing business news in addition focusing on digital publishing, African American publishing, graphic novel publishing and independent and small press publishing. In 2006 he received the Bob Clampett Humanitarian Award from the San Diego Comic-con International for many years of work dedicated to helping establish comics and graphic novels as category in the book industry.
