Gail Apfel earned her B.A. in History with certifications in Elementary Education and Social Studies from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and her M.S. in Elementary Education from the University of Pennsylvania, and certifications as a reading specialist and elementary school principal. In 1989-1990, under her leadership, Stonehurst Hills School in the Upper Darby School District, was designated a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. At Penn Wynne School in the Lower Merion School District, Ms. Apfel was part of a team that implemented an innovative autistic support program. From 2002-2005, she served on the board of the Principals’ Center at Harvard University.
Ms. Apfel supervises student teachers at Rosemont College and West Chester University. Her instructional, curricular, and leadership experiences reflect a strong commitment to inclusive, diverse school communities, balanced literacy programs, differentiated instruction, and the mentoring of beginning teachers.
