ACT 101

Peer Mentors

Peer mentors are an integral part of the ACT 101 program. They are individuals from the student body who meet regularly with the ACT 101 members in small groups and also one-on-one to discuss class progress and also to guide them through their first few semesters here at Rosemont College to help them become oriented to the Rosemont community. They are students who are very familiar with the campus and the staff members who work in the Student Academic Support Center as well as other departments on campus. Peer mentoring is a strong and positive component of the entire ACT 101 program and my co-workers and I are always glad for their help during the year.

Fall 2010 - Spring 2011 Peer Mentors

Kierra Barnard

Sophia Brame

My name is Sophia Brame but many people call me Sophie. I am a communications major with a minor in psychology. After graduation, I plan to work in the television broadcasting field, eventually landing me in a newscaster position. I like being a peer mentor because I love working with others to achieve their goals. I have always been looked up to by my younger siblings and nieces and nephew, therefore I know that I must set a good example at all times. Some of the things that I enjoy doing in my free time are reading, listening to music and shopping.

Chatoya Haile

Hi. My name is Chatoya Haile. I like to be called Toya - my nickname if you will. I am a senior at Rosemont College, Class of 2011. My field of interest is biology, with a concentration in secondary education. After I graduate from Rosemont College, I plan to attend an accelerated nursing program to obtain a nursing certificate. Shortly after accomplishing this goal, I also plan to teach biology to high school students. As you can see, it is in my nature to help those in need as well as be a guide and role model. Being an Act 101 Peer Mentor will allow me to do these things and it warms my heart knowing that I can help and have an effect on the lives of others. Although I am like any other college student, I enjoy spending time with my daughter, reading and hanging out with friends in my spare time.

Carprice Williams

My name is Carprice Williams but I’m also known around campus as Cappy! I am currently a junior at Rosemont College, and am majoring in elementary education, with a concentration in political science. Graduation is quickly approaching so I am preparing myself to be a teacher. After graduation I will hopefully be a 2nd grade teacher in a nearby school district. This year I really look forward to being a peer mentor and creating connections with each one of my students. I was once an ACT 101 student and my peer mentor was wonderful. Therefore, I want to provide a wonderful experience for my mentees. When I am not in class, studying, texting or working I enjoy going to the mall and the beach and hanging with my friends and family.
