"... I have no solution to this situation; I don't know the answers,
but will walk with you, search with you, be with you." -Ita Ford, M.M.

Alternative Spring Break Trips
Campus Ministry also provides those interested in service with an opportunity to volunteer for an extended period of time over the course of the College's Spring Break. During this experience students are immersed in the community and culture of the place in which they are serving. Past trips have included Lafayette, Louisiana, Dominican Republic and El Salvador.

Alternative Spring Break 2009
TBA in Fall '08

Past ASB trips include...

ASB 2008 El Salvador

Students and staff spent eight days building solidarity with the poor in and around city of San Salvador with the assistance of a non-profit group called CRISPAZ. The ASB team met with human rights officials from the Salvadorian government, artisans and fair trade workers, employees in a local ecological center, and spent an evening living with local families that work in one of the coffee cooperatives. Also, the ASB team was given the opportunity to learn about the Salvadorian martyrs. This included a visit to the home of Archbishop Oscar Romero and the celebration of Mass in the Chapel where he was assassinated, as well as a visit to the rose garden, tour of the museum, and celebration of Mass at the Central American University where the six Jesuit priests, Julia Ramos, and her daughter Cecilia Ramos were killed. Our 2008 ASB trip differed from previous trips in that students spent the week educating themselves about prominent issues impacting El Salvador in the hopes of returning to educate those in the U.S. about the problems still facing the poor in Central America.

ASB 2005 and 2007 Dominican Republic

During both ASB trips students and Campus Ministry staff members spent the week working with grade school children and helping to paint and refurbish needed areas at the schools.

ASB 2006 Louisiana

Athletics and Campus Ministry teamed up to send students and staff to help with relief efforts and rebuilding of homes after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

Interested Rosemont students or potential incoming freshman to the College can contact Jenna Meehan (610-527-0200 x2410) to find out more information about past and upcoming ASB trips. Campus Ministry can also put you in contact with students from previous ASB trips if you would like to hear and know more about the student perspective of a week of volunteer service work!
