2. Subject Indexes

  • Is your topic in a particular subject area?

If so, use a subject index. Subject indexes specialize in a particular subject, and the articles indexed are generally from scholarly sources. Examples of subject indexes and the kinds of articles they identify are:

ABI/Inform
Provides abstracts and selective full text of articles on U.S. and international business and management from over 2000 academic journals and other business publications from 1971 to the present. Accessed through FirstSearch.
JStor
Contains full-text journal articles from over 100 publications primarily in the humanities, including literature, history, economics, mathematics, and philosophy.
PsycARTICLES
Indexes and abstracts journal articles, books and book chapters, and dissertations on psychology and psychological aspects of other disciplines. Coverage is from 1806 to the present.
