Two Types of Article Indexes
Which article index to use depends upon your topic.

1. General Article Indexes

  •  Is your topic general or cross-disciplinary?
  •  Currently in the news?

If so, start with one of the general article indexes. These cover a wide range of subjects and often index a mixture of popular and scholarly sources. This is often a good place to begin research. Examples of general indexes and the kinds of articles they identify are:

WilsonWeb
The OmniFile from WilsonWeb indexes and provides selective abstracts and full text of popular and scholarly periodicals in business, education, science, humanities, social sciences, and general periodical literature. Coverage is from 1981 to the present.
NewsBank The America's Newspapers collection from Newsbank contains full text of local, regional, and national U.S. newspapers. Dates vary.
