Making the Most of Subject Searching

smile The advantage of a subject search is that it provides more focused results than a keyword search.
frown Its disadvantage is that it's hard to know what LCSH term will be used for a topic.
  A good strategy is:
  1. First, use your own terms in a Keyword search.
  2. Then look at the records for books that are on your topic.
  3. Jot down any good subject terms that are listed and use them later in subject searches or
  4. Click on the linked subject term.
You can also find a listing of authorized LCSH terms by checking the Library of Congress Subject Headings Manual, a set of books located in the library's Reference Room.
